Most Fantasy can be defined by its setting and plot: in a medieval world of magic, an unlikely hero saves the world from an unspeakable evil. I think she may have suffered from the sheod and just doesn't want to admit it. I found myself cluing in to what was about to happen a number of times just before the events or epiphanies transpired. Elantris: gigantic, beautiful, literally radiant, filled with benevolent beings who used their powerful magical abilities to benefit all the people of Arelon. Sanderson is one of the new generation of fantasy novelists who may have read Tolkien, but feels no obligation to duplicate his work. Elantris is the first novel by acclaimed fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson I've read that I didn't find to be a page turner.
